ACTIVISION 02 PRESENTS TONY HAWK’S BOOM BOOM HUCKJAM ARENA TOUR 2002 BROUGHT TO YOU BY MTV2, SQUEEZ ‘N GO AND PLAYSTATION 2
Skateboarding icon Tony Hawk—the ambassador of action sports—has created a circus of skateboarding, BMX, motocross and music. This fall, the U.S. will see the premier talents of the action sports world embark on a whole new kind of arena tour. The industry will never be the same.
On April 27, 2002, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Tony Hawk unveiled his vision: a multi-million dollar customized ramp/track system, musical stage, and state of the art video, audio and lighting systems. Skateboarders and BMX bikers aired out on the center ramp. Motocross riders launched high overhead. Pyrotechnics exploded and lighting dazzled as the world’s best action sports aerialists wowed the crowd of drop-jawed kids and parents alike. In a highly synchronized performance, Hawk, Andy Macdonald and Bucky Lasek skated alongside BMXers like Dave Mirra, Mat Hoffman and Kevin Robinson while Motocross madmen Carey Hart, Clifford “The Flyin’ Hawaiian” Adoptante and Mike Cinqmars flew over and around them. This cast of big-name, big-talent athletes rode to the live music of Social Distortion and The Offspring, treating a very lucky crowd to a new standard in action sports and music—Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom HuckJam Arena Tour 2002.
The success in Vegas was due to an exploding fan base that has embraced these sports and music lifestyles as their own. Today’s kids, teens and parents make up the Boom Boom HuckJam audience. Following the good old formula of supply and demand, Hawk is taking the show on the road. Beginning Oct. 9, 2002, the tour will fill arenas nationwide to showcase high-flying action on a custom-made, million-dollar ramp system. These ramps, designed by Hawk and the athletes specifically for this tour, will push the limits of skateboarding, BMX and motocross. Rock bands will be on stage playing along with the explosive action, laying down a soundtrack for the stunts.
No shortcuts have been taken in coordinating the massive light show and pyrotechnic display that will light up the arenas. BMX legend and television personality Rick Thorne has confirmed that he will be presiding over every show on the tour as emcee; as a special added bonus he will be riding BMX during the all out “Jam portion of the show which will take place while the band is playing. Add in Cirque du Soleil-style performers in the stands, and it’s an experience that overwhelms the senses.
A tour like this would not be complete without hardcore punked out rock music to get the adrenaline in the arena pumping. Ushering in a new era of jams to compliment this new breed of uber-athletes, Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom HuckJam is about to play host to a wild cast of off-the-wall rockers that are without a doubt going to up the ante. The Offspring, Face to Face, Devo, Social Distortion, CKY and Good Charlotte are confirmed to each take a leg of the tour. This combination of rock and raw power only adds attraction to an extraordinary experience that is fully one of the rare “see it to believe it” kind of things.
